Video Of The Week: The Dead Weather

At long last, The Dead Weather (Alison Mosshart of The Kills on vocals, Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs and The Greenhornes on ass, Dean Fertita of Queens Of The Stone Age on guitar and a guy named Jack White on drums and vocals) are set to release their third record, Dodge And Burn, at the end of the month.

As with most things Jack White, it happened with one phone call and a couple of days to record two songs in late 2013, the same for two more mid-2014, and 8 more songs this Spring. Crash, bang, boom - 12 songs, one record.

I won't pretend that I Feel Love (Every Million Miles) is the most original track each of these four artists have ever created, but it certainly fits in all of their respective cannons as a groovy, listenable song, etched in blues and hard rock, with just the right amount of lyrics for the right amount of time it lasts.

And the Ian & Copper-directed video has just the right amount of budget to be considered serious and professional while not being over-the-top nor overshadowing Mosshart or the music. You can hear White's voice at times, particularly near the end, but it's all Mosshart walking up a street against a wind machine.

Video Of The Week: The Kills

Before they were dancy, Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince (a.k.a. The Kills) had a gloomy take on modern garage rock, not unlike Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Mosshart drew a lot of attention with this band, but even more so with her side-project with Jack White, The Dead Weather.

With this song, the title track off No Wow, they show the potential to round out a sound with just a voice, a guitar, and effects (namely a looper to repeat the drum-like parts and a drum machine). Simple, effective.



Also, they show the tremendous power of a pouty, hiding-her-face, dark-haired femme fatale and her ability to create an aura of charisma despite not having the best voice of all time nor looking like a model. It comes down to ''can she bring it?'', and she does.

Video Of The Week: The Kills

They were in town 10 days ago to provide the kind of show they're able to, in a room full of fans and fanatics - and they delivered. They have just released their fourth record, Blood Pressures (not quite No Wow or Midnight Boom, but still pretty good, and much better than what you'll hear on the radio, of course), and will be touring Europe this summer.

And if you don't know The Kills, maybe you'll remember singer Alison Mosshart from her side-project with Jack White, The Dead Weather.

Usually, The Kills focus more on guitars and vocals than in this single, but I guess in a sea of White Stripes, Black Keys and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, you kind of have to work on your originality a bit to make it work - and work it did, as this is probably their most ''successful'' song.
