Scenes Of This Summer In Art Form

I don't walk into Monastikari nearly often enough, and when I do, it's usually almost undercover, for a quick in-and-out while in-between two appointments in the area, one of them usually a show I'm playing that I'm late for. Yeah, I'm that guy. Though, in my defense, pretty much all Montréal musicians are.

That being said, I want to go see this installation - named The Swimmer & The Rain Cloud - live, because the more I look at the pictures (two of them pasted below, the rest you have to click on this link to see), the more mesmerized I get:

The artists responsible for this papier maché / bricolage diorama mind-meld are Emilie O'Brien (who co-runs the place) and Tara Slaughter, who has curated many a project there.

Monastiraki Makes Martha Stewart Top-10 List

Our kind friends and sometimes poster designers Billy Mavreas and Emilie O'Brien at Monastiraki have made Martha Stewart Living's top-10 list of things to see/do/eat in Montréal!

Although I disagree with some of their over-the-top statements (''Move over, poutine!'', for one), it's still pretty freaking cool.

Not all things in life are dark, brutal, twisted, and full of bullshit.

Then again, Martha Stewart is a convicted felon...

Plug: Drummer Jackie Gallant At Monastiraki On Sunday

Jackie Gallant (Lesbians On Ecstacy, American Devices), drummer extraordinaire and Montréal legend with whom I was lucky enough to play in the cover band Loaded not just once but three times last year is playing a solo show this coming Sunday, around 2PM, at museum/thrift shop Monastiraki (5478 St-Laurent).

A sight to behold, for sure. My favourite drummer not named Jack Irons, I tell you.
