Bombs Versus Policy Versus Truth

So, Donald Trump told his military chiefs they could do what they wanted, and of course they used their biggest toy (non-nuclear anyway) for the first time. It's as if he's never seen a single fucking movie with enough budget to have a consultant on-set to help tell the truest version of a tale within a fictitious setting, where those guys are usually depicted as "quick on the draw".

Health care is more complex than he thought, foreign diplomacy is harder than he thought, and now he's about to learn that Generals may not be the best people to handle foreign diplomacy - all while he spends every fucking weekend playing golf in his private Florida club.

For fuck's sake.

And that's saying nothing of the Russia connection...

Here's a clip from MSNBC, and this is how their YouTube page describes the video: "The Trump administration dropped a bomb that the Obama and Bush administrations refrained from using as new ties between Trump associates and Russian agents are reported. Malcolm Nance, David Corn, and David Frum join Lawrence O'Donnell."

Read that twice if you need to, particularly the first sentence. Remember how the bombs on Syria a few days ago seemed to just be a decoy for hiding all the shit currently going on on the home front, to say nothing of the fact that they may have been a deception that was acted upon too swiftly by a President who needs to prove his toughness to the world at the beginning of his first mandate.

Furrians And Refugees

So, uh, Syrian refugees arrived in Canada this week, greeted by The Face Of Canada, Justin Trudeau (i.e. the prettier Stephen Harper). Then they were put in a hotel where there was a Furry convention...

... and good times ensued, because the kids are innocent and haven't been corrupted by Life, or Religion, or Politics, or anything else yet. They can just be.

The Stories The News Choose To Tell

Times are changing in the Middle East, as People are learning that a few million of them protesting at once might have an impact and, in some cases, even topple and overthrow a government - something Canadians, for example, had long forgotten, as they are ruled by a minority party that can't even get 30% of the vote.

Why are the regime changes not enough? Why must Western (professional) news readers and commentators laugh at the toppled dictators' physique? Two nights ago, Jon Stewart described Muammar Gaddafi (Kadafi for some) as a ''tired Lionel Richie impersonator'', which would have been enough, but added ''perhaps he should do less Dancing On The Ceiling''.

Today, Robert Fisk, commentator for The Independent, called him ''the old, paranoid, crazed fox of Lybya - the pallid, infantile, droop-cheeked dictator'' in his introduction, and went even further in his conclusion:
The old boy looked bad, sagging face, bloated, simply "magnoon" (mad), a comedy actor who had turned to serious tragedy in his last days, desperate for the last make-up lady, the final knock on the theatre door.
The complete story is here.

Like... really? You can't get over his fucking face? Why not a single fucking word about why his people are mad, what he did to them to incite revolt? Why is what he looks like more important than his mental state, his whereabouts, how he's preparing his legacy and/or the follow-up to his administration? Or the one mistake he made that got his opponents thinking now would be a decent time for an uprising?

But no. He looks like a drag queen who has gone sleepless for months on a crystal meth binge. Much more fucking important.
